Day 29 : Film 383 (Serenity)

Director: Joss Whedon (2005)

Running Time: 119 mins

Blurb: As a ruthless assassin hunts one of their members, the crew of Serenity seeks to spread the truth about the governing Alliance. 

Zio’s Random Thoughts: I know, I know. We are SO FAR IN THE FUTURE, List-wise, we’re not even in the four hundreds, any more. I’m rapidly running out of reserve films, too. SITUATION DIRE. GO ON WITHOUT ME. On the plus side, I’m sure, when I run out of things to blog about, and therefore wither away and die, someone will find this project and make a film about my noble deeds. I think that would be fitting. 

So! Serenity! 

This film makes me simultaneously happy and sad. Happy, because hey - an extension of the Firefly universe! Sad, because I watch it and think about a) how much better it would have been stretched out as a TV show (Seriously. Stop and think about that for a moment.) and b) how much of it reads like a great big “fuck you” from Joss to anyone who might look at the film’s success and then want to continue the Firefly series. Which, you know, I respect that kind of righteousness, but I have so many questions. 

Anyway, I’m sure they’ll all be answered when I kidnap Joss next week, so let’s watch the film!
